Christmas Poinsettias

November 9th, 2012

Christmas flowers delivery VancouverCanada florist online delivery Terra Plants & Flowersonline flower order Vancouver Richmond florist

Table centerpieces and Poinsettias are the most popular holiday gifts and decorations for Christmas. It is the most celebrated  holiday around the world. Door swags, wreaths, garlands twirling around the fireplace mantle and along the staircases, columns and bright lights etc. are only a few of the decorations we love to put around the home to make this season festive-looking.

Poinsettias bloom for a long period of time and the vibrant colors makes it very likeable. There are people who can manage to keep a poinsettia bloom year round, though the expected lifespan should be around three months.

Nothing dresses up a home better than the different colors of poinsettia, which growers come up with more and more different colors other than the traditional red.  Our florist have some tips in keeping poinsettia last longer by avoid cold drafts from windows and doorways. Even though it comes out in the winter months, they are actually suitable for warmer indoors, between 18- 20 degrees C. They will wilted when temperatures dip to below 3 degrees. Make sure it is well wrapped from the florist to your home. Lighting is simple- some indirect sunlight per day will be good and strong sun-rays should be avoided.

Water only when the soils feels dry, and the plant should never be sitting in water. Fertilizing is not necessary when it is in bloom, a well balanced fertilizer with 20-20-20 would be ideal.

December is the busiest month of the year for florists, and we would like to recommend customers to order in advance to avoid the last minute rush.

We are into the very very hot summer months in North America, but it does not discourage people from having summer weddings, outdoor or indoor.

Colors and types of flowers to use become even more important as not many flowers can withstand the hot summer heat. As much as florists keep all flowers in the cooler to keep it nice and fresh, once it is out under 25 and over degrees, flowers wilt very quickly. Therefore choosing the right flowers become a huge factor.

Tropical (exotic) flowers is the best choice as they can withstand very strong heat and still holds up well. Like Cymbidium Orchids, Dendrobium Orchids, Gardenia and Stephenotis from Hawaii and popular choices for summer weddings. Roses are one of the most beloved flowers but not exactly the best choice, as they wilt easily. Other year-round available flowers like carnations are ideal as well, but unfortunately most people relate them to ‘motherly’ flowers and do not want them on young ladies bouquet.

Other than flowers, the entire decor lies within the color choices, from table linens to name cards, dresses to flowers, backdrop settings, the color you choose set the tone for the entire wedding event. White is still the all-time favorite as it is elegant, gracious, matches with any other tone of color.

bride's bouquet wedding flowers Vancouver

Since the majority, or 99.9% of the bride’s gown will be white, making it very easy for the flowers to match the gown. Some like to go with bold summer colors, like yellow, orange, red etc. Flowers like Calla Lily, Gerberas, Roses can really make a powerful statement. flowers, backdrop settings, the color you choose set the tone for the entire wedding event. White is still the all-time favorite as it is elegant, gracious, matches with any other tone of color.

At Terra, we update our website with hundreds of in-fashion colors and bouquets for different times of the year. Providing customers with many choices, whether subtle or bold, there are wedding bouquet designs for everyone. Flowers can also blessed a wedding cake with matching colors of the entire event color

The good thing about having lots of rain is that our flowers really love them!

Now that summer is officially here, the abundance of flowers are so pleasant to see around town, whether is home grown or nice arranged by gardeners in the city. There are perennial flowers that starting to reap from spring planting, like Roses, Irises and Peonies. Many beginner-gardeners love to grow them as they are easy to maintain. One of the most important tips is to make sure they have plenty of water as the summer heats up. It is critical as water needs to soak up the top part of the soil and also deeply into the ground.

The common error is that people like to spray flowers with their garden hose and just by looking at the blooms and leaves, there is a misconception that the water is enough, but barely any water gets into the soil by doing so. Once the blooms wilt, especially Hydrageas and Roses, it is hard for them to come back looking healthy.

Other than the types of flowers mentioned, there are others like Azalea, Begonia, Bellflowers, Larkspur, Lilies, Snapdragon Flowers, Delphiniums, Black Eyed Susan, Impatiens Flowers, Honeysuckle Vine etc. just to name a few.

Since the ‘natural look’ is very popular in floral design, our florist uses a lot of these flowers to incorporate into our bouquets and arrangements. Peonies are one of the most sorted flowers this time of the year, as the season is barely long enough for people to enjoy the huge, vivid blooms. It has become almost a ‘ Mother’s Day’ flower alongside Carnations.

On our two popular websites – www.TerraFlorist.com and www.TerraFloristVancouver.com, we constantly updates new chic designs and traditional, seasonal arrangements. We always have a great selection for any occasion.
